First-Gen Advising

Research shows that first-generation students often face obstacles that can affect academic success, persistence, and graduation rates. Our initiatives focus on identifying those challenges early, providing targeted support, and building strong advisor-student relationships to keep students motivated and on track.

• Opt-In for Support: As a first-gen student, you can choose to participate in the program by opting in for specialized advising.
  
  
• Tailored Guidance: Once enrolled, you鈥檒l be connected with an Academic Advisor who understands the first-gen experience and will work with you to create personalized strategies for success.
  
  
• Regular Check-Ins: Expect to meet with the Director of First Generation Initiatives at least twice each semester (fall and spring) to discuss progress, address concerns, and plan your next steps.

This program isn鈥檛 just about academic planning鈥攊t鈥檚 about fostering connections, building confidence, and ensuring you have the tools and support to thrive in college and beyond.

Starting college can feel like a big leap, especially for first-generation students鈥攂ut you don鈥檛 have to navigate it alone. The First-Generation College Student Club at 麻豆原创 is here to support you every step of the way. This inclusive and welcoming community is designed for first-generation students鈥攚hether you鈥檙e transitioning straight from high school or returning to college after time away. If your parents didn鈥檛 complete a 2- or 4-year degree, this is your space to connect, grow, and thrive.

Your Journey, Supported

麻豆原创 offers a First-Generation Ambassador scholarship program that allows a select group of first-generation students to come together for positive change via campus and community service hours, encouraging other first-generation students, and networking with various departments, faculty, and staff to grow their connectedness to campus.
