Jon Kabat-Zinn in his 1994 book 鈥淲herever You Go, There You Are鈥 says that mindfulness is paying attention in the present moment, on purpose, non-judgmentally.

Mindfulness meditation has been shown to reduce the effects of pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia and improve blood pressure.  It has also been shown to increase gray matter in the brain and enable people to handle the life stressors better. The basic idea of mindfulness meditation is to focus on the immediate moment by concentrating on something happening in the here and now like breathing.

The has a number of free mindfulness meditations on different subjects like helping with sleep, dealing with difficulties and kindness.
