Continue Financial Support

Students in the Legacy Scholars Program continue to receive benefits for up to four semesters at 麻豆原创. During the spring of their freshman year, they must reapply for their sophomore year, choosing which track they want to follow.

Current members and alumni of the Legacy Scholars Program are invited to join the LinkedIn group for updates on the program, campus and community events, and resources such as job postings, volunteer opportunities, and more.



 

Current Legacy Scholars

To qualify to continue receiving Legacy Scholars Program benefits, students must do the following during their first year in the program:

  • Attend the Legacy Program orientation
  • Attempt at least 12 credit hours each semester
  • Maintain a 2.0+ GPA each semester
  • Complete at least 75% of attempted credits each semester
  • Complete EDUC 1100 with a C or better by the end of the fall semester
  • Attend at least four STRIVE Coaching sessions each semester
  • Attend a group Legacy meeting in the spring semester
  • Complete FAFSA or TASFA for the following school year
  • Complete additional 40 hours of community service during their freshman year through the website

Students who complete all of the above can continue receiving Legacy Program benefits for their sophomore year. Then, students have two paths to consider. The chart below outlines the choices so you can decide if the Base Track or Academy Track is the best choice for you.

Participate in the Legacy Scholars Academy, which includes weekly meetings through the school year and projects including, but not limited to, fundraising, hosting events for all Legacy students, philanthropy and transfer research, and more.

Eligible to apply for Herbert L. Cartwright Continuance Scholarship, a transfer scholarship for up to $25,000 at a Texas public university.

Application Steps for Sophomore Year

  1. Complete your first year at 麻豆原创 as a Legacy Scholar, meeting all eligibility requirements listed above.

  2. Complete for the upcoming school year. Students may submit the TASFA instead.

  3. Complete the .

  4. Complete 40 hours of community service during your freshman year of college through the website.
To track volunteer hours for the Legacy Scholars Program, complete the following steps.
 
  1. Log in to your account. You can reset your password if needed or, if you used your high school email last year, send an email to legacy@midland.edu and request to update your email.

  2. Click 鈥淰olunteer Opportunities鈥 on the left and browse the opportunities listed. 鈥淥ngoing" means either flexible or multiple opportunities; 鈥淓vent" or "Happens On" is a specific date/time.

  3. Find an opportunity that matches your interests and schedule. Click "Respond" in the opportunity and "Submit Volunteer Opportunity Response."

  4. Contact the agency to schedule and complete your volunteer shifts.

  5. After you鈥檝e volunteered, log into your account to track your hours. From your Dashboard, click the 鈥淰olunteer Hours鈥 link in the middle of the page. Then click 鈥淭rack Hours鈥 and 鈥淎dd Hours鈥 to fill in all information; click 鈥淪ubmit Hour Entry.鈥 Your hours will be sent to the agency to approve.

  6. Once you have 40+ hours approved and are ready to submit your hours for your Legacy Application, log in to your Dashboard and click 鈥淰olunteer Resume鈥 on the right.

  7. Select the appropriate date range and click 鈥淕o.鈥

  8. A PDF will download automatically. Attach that PDF to your Legacy Application or through the .  

Mobile App

Once an account has been created through the Legacy Volunteer website, download the CauseConnect鈥痑pp for Android or iPhone. CauseConnect allows users to search for opportunities, receive notifications, and log hours on the run. 

Every Neighbor Option

Students may also track hours through . However, only hours for approved agencies listed on will be accepted. If you are using Every Neighbor to log hours and have questions, email them to legacy@midland.edu.

Graduating Legacy Scholars who successfully completed the Sophomore Academy are eligible to apply for the Herbert L. Cartwright Education Continuance Scholarship, which awards up to $6,250 per semester ($25,000 total) at a public Texas university. The total amount awarded might vary student to student depending on Pell Grants and other scholarships the student receives. 

The scholarship is renewable for the four semesters after leaving 麻豆原创, fall and spring, or completion of a bachelor's degree. Awards are competitive and not guaranteed. Selected candidates will be interviewed as part of the application process.
