For students and families across the Permian Basin, access to fresh, nutritious food isn鈥檛 always a given, but during Hunger Action Month, 麻豆原创, and are working together to make it a little easier.

The West Texas Food Bank Produce Roadshow will return to 麻豆原创 on Monday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in front of the June and Frank Cowden, Jr. Dining Hall on the 麻豆原创 campus.

The free event is open to 麻豆原创 students and the entire community. Sponsored by Oxy, fresh produce will be available while supplies last, and attendees can enjoy a free hot dog lunch and connect with organizations offering additional resources and support.

For 麻豆原创, addressing food insecurity means recognizing that what happens outside the classroom can have a very real impact on what happens inside it. Events like the Produce Roadshow allow the College to meet an immediate need while also connecting students with people and resources that can help when challenges arise.

鈥淔ood insecurity is an issue throughout West Texas, and college students are not immune,鈥� said Joseph Granado, 麻豆原创鈥檚 Vice President of Student Services. 鈥淭he cost of tuition, books, housing, transportation and everyday necessities can stretch already-tight budgets. When students are worried about where their next meal will come from, focusing on an exam, completing an assignment or simply staying in school becomes that much harder.鈥�

But the need doesn鈥檛 stop at the edge of campus. By opening the Produce Roadshow to the public, 麻豆原创 and the West Texas Food Bank are making fresh food and helpful resources more accessible to individuals and families throughout the community.

鈥溌槎乖� is part of this community, and that means caring about the challenges our neighbors face,鈥� said Dr. Damon Kennedy, 麻豆原创 President. 鈥淲e鈥檙e grateful for our partnership with the West Texas Food Bank because it allows us to bring people together around a very basic need. When we can use our campus and our partnerships to help make life a little easier for students and families across the Permian Basin, that鈥檚 important work.鈥�

Local organizations are also expected to participate in this year鈥檚 event, providing information and connections to additional services. Participating organizations will be announced as the event approaches.
